You will enjoy one of most delightful, enchanting, picturesque elk and deer hunts in the United States

At our ranch, we offer years of guiding experience as we first entertained hunters in 1974. At the Hideaway, your hunting takes place on over 25,000 acres of private ranchland combined with over 10,000 additional acres in a roadless area. Home for your Hideaway hunting trip is a combination of a ranch home & lodge or one of the nearby log cabins. You will enjoy the home-cooked meals at the lodge and the comfort of the cabins.

All of our rifle hunts are six days of actual hunting with arrival on a Saturday and departure on the following Saturday. Our archery hunts are eight day hunts with arrival the day prior and departure the day following your hunt.

Currently, we host around 30 hunters for the entire rifle and archery seasons with generally around 10 archers and 20 rifle hunters hunting at the Hideaway. Our hunters have had great success in recent years.

Last year, our 2020 season, we harvested 30 elk for 30 hunters. Of those elk, 25 were brow tine bulls and 11 of those bulls had six points or more. The biggest bull went to an archery hunter with a score over 340 inches. Our mule deer hunting, while not what it was in the 1980’s, lead to five bucks being harvested and all of them were well over 140 inches. The top mule deer scored 156 inches with two others scoring over that 150 mark. The whitetail hunting resulted in four whitetail bucks being harvested with the top buck at 152 inches. The deer populations continue to grow as we have started pursuing mountain lions with a vengeance over the past several winters. Our buck to doe ratio this winter was a wild 63 bucks to 100 does and our shed hunting success proved there will be many substantial bucks over the coming seasons.

The 2018 and 2019 seasons were record years for us with the harvest of 43 elk in each of those seasons. One reason for the decrease in the 2020 season was a change to the elk B tag where the number of tags was drastically decreased, going from 450 tags to 125 tags for our area. In 2019, we harvested 19 browtine bulls with five of those having six points or more. The top bull for 2019 scored 337 1/8 inches. In 2019, we harvested seven mule deer with all of those having at least four points. We also scored on six whitetail bucks. We managed a buck to doe ratio of 38 bucks to every 100 does.

The 2018 season produced 22 browtine bulls of the 43 elk harvested. Seven of those bulls had six points or more. The top scoring bull of the season went for 322 inches. We managed to harvest 7 mule deer, all of which were four point bucks. The whitetail hunters scored eight bucks with four of those going over 142 inches and one of our hunters gettin a whopper at 162 inches. The winter counts showed a buck to doe ratio of 42:100. The total deer count was low, less than half what it had been just several years before the 2018 winter. Throughout the season we saw seven mountain lions. Research shows that mountain lions will eat about 50 deer per year. With seven different cats on the ranch that would total 350 deer each year. It was at this time we decided to put a concerted effort into the successful harvest of mountain lions. Since then, we have seen the deer numbers increase along with the overall quality of bucks. We hope to see this trend continue as we make a push on the big cats.

All hunt prices include your meals, lodging, guide fees, airport delivery from Helena or Bozeman, transport of harvested animals to a local butcher (you pay for processing) and transport of any capes, antlers, or hides to a local taxidermist. We do require an initial 50% deposit and signed contract to book a spot in our camp. Rifle season rates are for 1 guide to 2 hunters. 1 guide to 1 hunter adds $1000 per cost of the hunt. During the bow season we use 1 guide for 1 hunter.
